Domain

What is a domain…and why do you need to establish your own domain on the internet?

Glad you asked!  A domain is really just another name for your website address. If you want to be part of the amazing world of internet marketing, then you have to set up shop somewhere.  Your domain is the place.  A good domain name is vital for a business. If the name does not match your business name or slogan then it must be closely related to one or both. Your domain name must also be easy to remember so that customers do not have to work hard to find your site online. Having a registered domain name with a live Website is sometimes the first priority for a business today, because it is a very inexpensive way to get your business name and information in front of the public.

Don’t be cheap when it comes to domains.  Buy a few!  It’s inexpensive and easy to do.  It shouldn’t cost more than $10 a year to stake your claim to a domain – and open up another potential “storefront” along the information superhighway.

Once you’ve purchased the domain name, then you have to have a host.  Think of it this way, your domain is your store—but you have to put your store in a shopping center or mail.  So the “host” is sorta like the shopping mall where you set up your shop.  Okay, simplistic to be sure but you get the idea.

I personally think it’s easier to buy your domain name from the host company, although some people prefer to shop around for better deals.  The host company I use only charges $6.95 to host your store and $10 (renewable once a year) for domain names
